I was 29 years old and the mother of three small children when my husband, a Navy fighter pilot, was killed in combat. I was totally unprepared to be a widow and to offer my fatherless children the support they needed. I tried! Oh, how hard I tried! But there were no books or support groups or guidance for a grieving young mother at that time..
My son Barty was seven. By his early teen years, he was acting out in very self-destrictive ways. A psychiatrist told me, "Your son is emotionally stuck at the age of seven--the age he was when his father died-- and unless you get help now he will grow up but stay 'stuck' emotionally. It will hamper his relationships and work career." No parent wants to hear those words. MY ANGRY SON shares with readers how we got help.
For most of my adult life, I have been a professaional writer and all my best writing appears in the form of stories taken from my own life. I deeply believe that in sharing our storiees we not only help others, we find a higher meaning for ourselves, even in the face of tragedy.
You will find my stories in many major women's magazines and in Readers Digest, as well as in nine published books and several anthologies, including four Chicken Soup of the Soul books.I have won awards for my writing, but the reponses I savor are those from readers who say "Thank you. Your story helped me through a difficult time in my own life.".
For many years, readers have encouraged me to reprint my book, MY ANGRY SON, our family’s true story which first appeared as a book-length feature in Readers Digest magazine, then became a hard back book, a soft cover book, and was optioned for a CBS-movie.
MY ANGRY SON is now available as a Kindle book. I hope it will offer help and encouragement to parents and--yes--to sons and daughters as well. Click here. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-text&field-keywords=My+Angry+Son+by+Barbara+Bartocci
